From ENROLLMENT TO BELONGING
Build a Culture worth living for.
By Jocely Gonzalez
Your company’s culture is practiced every day—in every conversation, decision, and response to a challenge.
Values on a wall gain meaning when people experience them through leadership. I had the privilege to present at a symposium of martial arts business owners on this very topic… It’s a privilege!!! ❤️
As a neuroscientist and leadership strategist, I see three lessons that help businesses build a culture where people can grow:
🔹 Connection creates space for contribution.
When people feel respected and heard, they are more willing to ask questions, share ideas, and raise concerns. Listen to understand, and consider the human impact of your decisions.
🔹 Repeated behaviors establish expectations.
The brain adapts through experience. Within organizations, daily interactions also teach people what to expect. How leaders receive feedback, address mistakes, and honor commitments sets an example others learn from.
🔹 Sustainable growth requires coachable leadership.
Stay curious about performance challenges. They may reveal unclear expectations, unmet needs, or unseen pressures. Balance accountability with humanity, and make learning part of everyday work.
Culture develops through consistent actions at every level of an organization. Each interaction can strengthen trust, clarify expectations, and support someone’s development.
What are your daily leadership behaviors teaching your team?
